I’m pleased to announce the following additions to the website:

  • A complete set of all the stichera idiomela and doxastika for the feast of Pentecost, several of them composed by Phillip Phares.
  • A thorough revision of both the sticheraric and heirmologic settings of the 4th Mode Stichera of Pentecost that are sung both at Matins on Sunday morning, and at the Kneeling Vespers that same day.

Additional Music for the Cross

Details:

In anticipation of tonight’s Vespers, and in continuing to work on our Lenten Idiomela Project, I have composed a setting of the hymn “Beholding Thee, the Fashioner and Creator of all” (Ὁρῶσά σε ἡ Κτίσις ἅπασα ἐπὶ σταυροῦ).  This was the Glory at the Entreaty (Liti) for Vespers on Saturday evening, and it is used again at this evening’s Vespers as well, at the Aposticha.  It can be found on the Lenten Hymnography (Variable) page, under “Third Sunday of Lent.”

In addition, an update about the Lenten Idiomela Project: Thus far, we have raised $1,475, which has been generously matched by our anonymous donor. We are still looking to raise $2,525, so as to take full advantage of the matching grant offer that we have received. You can read more about the project, and donate to support it, via this spreadsheet. If you can share this fundraising effort with anyone who might be interested, we would be very appreciative.

A blessed 4th Week of Lent to all!

New Project: The Weekday Idiomela, Martyrika, and Theotokia of the Lenten Triodion

Details:

I’m very pleased to announce an exciting new project of EnglishAnalogion.com.  Last year, I composed handwritten rough drafts for the majority of the idiomela, martyrika, and theotokia sung at the Vespers Aposticha and the Matins Aposticha of the Praises for the weekdays of Lent (Monday-Friday), using the texts from The Lenten Triodion of Met. Kallistos (Ware) and Mother Mary of blessed memory.  The task of typesetting these handwritten drafts is a large one but, glory to God, an anonymous donor has come forward and offered to match any donation all donations in support of this project, up to the amount of $4000.  Any and all scores produced as part of this project will be made available on English Analogion free of charge.  If you would like to help support this project, read more about exactly what scores have been composed, or make a donation, please see this spreadsheet. We have already begun work typesetting some of the drafts thanks to the initial donations we have received.

The first additions to the site from this project are the hymns for Monday Matins and Vespers of Clean Week, which can be found on the “Lenten Hymnography – Variable Hymns” page.  Please note that additional email updates will not be sent out every time a new hymn is uploaded; however, the “Updates” feed on the front page of the website will be, and you can also refresh the aforementioned “Lenten Hymnography” page to see if new music has been uploaded for a service you will be chanting at.

I wish you all a good Lent and a blessed spiritual struggle.
